Karen Black Dies At 74



After a long battle with cancer, legendary actress Karen Black died on Thursday (August 8).

The 74-year-old star's husband Stephen Eckelberry confirmed the news on Facebook, posting, "It is with great sadness that I have to report that my wife and best friend, Karen Black has just passed away, only a few minutes ago. Thank you all for all your prayers and love, they meant so much to her as they did to me."

Back in 1974, she starred as Myrtle Wilson in "The Great Gatsby" and earned a supporting actress Academy Award nomination for her role in "Five Easy Pieces" with Jack Nicholson.

Teaming up with another legend, Ms. Black appeared in Alfred Hitchcock's final film, "Family Plot."
